The Chinese city of Guangzhou, or “Sui” for short as the locals call it, is also known as the “City of Flowers” and “City of Rams”. Boasting its symbol of power and dynamism, the city inspires awe and admiration among its visitors with its rich history and unique culture. No wonder, Forbes magazine has recognised Guangzhou as China’s second most dynamic city.

As the capital city of Guangdong province, the city functions as the political, economic, educational and cultural centre of the province. People call it the most liveable city in China for its combination of modern living and simultaneously relaxed way of life.

Since its formation in the Qin Dynasty, Guangzhou has remained at its original, superior geographic location till today with mountains, sea and the Pearl River all becoming parts of the city. In the 1920s, the city adopted the Western city planning concept as it built a garden city. At present, it continues to promote the coordinated development of urban and rural areas.

Guangzhou is now pushing forward with the High Quality Development Project for One Hundred Towns and Ten Thousand Villages as well as other urban renewal projects.

Currently, Guangzhou is a bustling 7,434 square kilometre city that has something for every one of its population of over 22 million. If someone is looking for a lively atmosphere, they can explore the city's vibrant nightlife scene and for a more laid-back experience, they can idly stroll through the city's streets and opt to stay at its cosy hotels.

One of the city's most impressive features is the stunning view of the Pearl River, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

But perhaps the most memorable aspect of Guangzhou is its food. The city is renowned for its Cantonese cuisine, which is a style of Chinese cooking that is celebrated all over the world for delicious flavours and innovative techniques – both traditional and modern.

The city has a fantastic selection of both local and international restaurants as well. There are eateries famous for local foods, braised ribs, Middle Eastern classics, and Western delicacies.

Canton Tower: A milestone in architectural history

The unique shape of Canton Tower in Guangzhou, inspired by the human hip joint, resembles an elegant lady with a slim figure.

The tower is locally known by the nickname "Xiao Man Yao," which is derived from the name of a famous woman named Xiao Man from the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). She was renowned for her slim waist, and the tower is similarly appreciated for its twisted and tight appearance.

The Canton Tower stands tall at the intersection of Guangzhou New City Central Axis and Pearl River, offering a majestic view of Haixinsha Island and Zhujiang New Town. At 600 metres, it is the tallest tower in China and the third tallest tower in the world.

The tower’s main body reaches up to 450 meters, with an additional 150 meters for its antenna, which provides a stunning sight to behold. The Canton Tower embodies Guangzhou's spirit of embracing challenges and reaching out to the world.

The Canton Tower is a comprehensive sightseeing building and a must-see tourist attraction, offering a wide range of activities such as sightseeing, adventure, fine dining, weddings, 4D cinema, sci-tech, education and shopping.

Visitors can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city from the observation deck at 433.2 meters height, the stunning beauty of a light show at night from the outside, a walking experience inside from 168 meters to 334.4 meters, and the “Sky Drop”, the world’s highest thrill ride.

Besides, the Pearl River night cruise ships allow passengers to enjoy the beautiful night-time scenery on both sides of the river. The cruise ships offer panoramic views of the colourful lighting and light shows from the Canton Tower and numerous tall buildings situated on the river banks.

During the cruise ship trips, visitors also enjoy the brightly and beautifully lit bridges, such as Liede, Jiangwan and Haiyin.
