Bangladesh on Wednesday recorded another 1,298 new cases of Covid-19, with the country’s daily test positivity sliding down to 5.58 per cent.
In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 5 more coronavirus-related deaths were also recorded, taking the total death toll from the deadly virus in the country to 28,995.
Bangladesh’s total number of positive cases now stands at 19,38,135 since the country first detected Covid patients on March 8, 2020.
On Tuesday, the positivity rate was at 6.77 per cent.
The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.
Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 23,274 samples at 875 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,32,83,785 samples.
Meanwhile, 8,072 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 17,79,687.
The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.
Among the new deceased, four were men and one woman.
Five deaths were reported in the Dhaka division.
