Bollywood's 'nightingale' Lata Mangeshkar has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Mumbai after she tested positive for Covid-19.
She has mild symptoms, and has been kept in the ICU only for precautionary reasons, the singer's niece Rachna confirmed the news to the Indian news agency ANI on Tuesday.
Since the pandemic began, India has recorded 35.7 million cases of Covid-19, the highest in the world after the United States.
Government officials have privately said they are working under the assumption that daily infections will surpass the record of more than 4,14,000 set in May, based on what has happened in countries like the United States, where daily cases have risen past one million.
