Bangladesh hands over humanitarian aid for Rakhine

Bangladesh government has handed over relief materials to the representatives of the Myanmar government sent as humanitarian assistance to the people of Rakhine state affected by Cyclone Mocha.

Charge d'Affaires of Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon ASM Sayem handed over the relief materials to Aung Win Thein, minister of Social Welfare of the Government of Yangon Region at 9:30 am local time on Tuesday, said a press release of the foreign ministry.

While receiving the relief materials, Thein expressed his gratitude to the Bangladesh government for the humanitarian assistance and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Government of Myanmar.

The Bangladesh Navy ship “Samudra Joy '' carrying about 120 tonnes of relief materials sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs left Chattogram on June 3, and reached Thilawah Port in Yangon on June 5. The relief materials include dry food, tents, various types of medicines and water purification tablets.

“This humanitarian aid has been sent as assistance to the people of Rakhine state under the direction of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” said Charge d'Affaires Sayem.

In the past, Bangladesh sent a large number of life-saving relief materials to the people of Myanmar after the floods and cyclone “Komen” in 2015 and cyclone “Nargis” in 2008, said the release.

Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Social Welfare and Navy of Myanmar and concerned officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon, BNS “Samudrajoy” of Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Consulate in Sittwe were present on behalf of Bangladesh, added the release.
