‘Eken Babu’ writer Sujan Dasgupta found dead

Renowned Bengali writer Sujan Dasgupta, known for chalking out the fictional character “Eken Babu”, was found dead at his residence near EM Bypass in Kolkata on Wednesday, reports India Today.

According to the Kolkata Police, Dasgupta’s domestic help reached his house at around 10am and knocked on the door. When there was no response despite repeated knocking on the door, she called the apartment's security guard. Both of them were unable to open the door.

Meanwhile, Sujan Dasgupta's brother-in-law also arrived and informed the local police. When they managed to open the door, they found the writer’s body in front of the en-suite washroom.

Police arrived at the spot and rushed Dasgupta to Baghajatin State General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The cause of his death can be ascertained only after post mortem, reports India Today.

According to the police, Sujan Dasgupta was alone at home, as his wife is in Shantinekatan on a tour and their daughter is in the US.

Sujan Dasgupta was 78. His most notable works are “Eken Babu”, “Nivrite” among others. Eken Babu is a very popular detective story, based on which a movie was made recently.
