Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi joined her son Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka for the Bharat Jodo Yatra (a march to unite India) on Thursday, where a video of Rahul tying his mother’s shoelaces went viral on twitter.
The moment was shared by the Congress Twitter handle with the caption: "Ma (mother)". The video showed Rahul Gandhi kneeling at his mother's feet, helping her tie her shoelaces, and then the two of them continued on the march, NDTV reports.
There was also a picture of Rahul walking with an arm around his mother's shoulder, which he captioned: “We have weathered many a storm and will overcome all challenges. Together we will unite India,” Economic Times reports.
The “Bharat Jodo Yatra” by the Congress party, led by Rahul Gandhi is being billed by the party as the longest rally mounted in the country over the last century. This was Sonia Gandhi's first public outing after a Covid infection earlier this year. She had last participated in a roadshow in Varanasi in 2016.
The nationwide campaign, which began in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari on September 7, entered Karnataka on September 30. Rahul Gandhi plans to walk 3,570 km through 12 states in his campaign to "unite India" and send a message against what he calls the "divisive politics" of the BJP. The Congress MP plans to travel towards the north after walking through three southern states.
