The World’s powerful electric cruise ship has set sail on its maiden journey on Tuesday in Yichang City in central China's Hubei Province.
The ship named "Yangtze River-Three Gorges Dam 1" which has a capacity of 1,300 passengers and is powered entirely by electric batteries, reports CGTN.
According to the China Three Gorges Cooperation, the 100-meter-long ship contains 15 individual battery packs with a combined capacity of 7,500 kilowatt-hour (kWh), the largest in a cruise ship and roughly equivalent to more than 100 electric automobiles.
The ship can sail at a speed of 16 km per hour for up to 100 kilometers.
A charger was erected at the ship's home port that can fully charge the ship's battery in six hours with green electricity from a hydropower plant, according to Zhang Yu, a manager at the Three Gorges Electric Energy Co Ltd, a Wuhan-based company that handled the ship's construction.
The ship may save 530 tonnes of fuel per year by using green energy, resulting in a decrease of more than 1,600 tonnes of dangerous gas per year.
The electric engine of the ship produces less vibration and noise, allowing passengers to enjoy a more pleasant experience.
