President Md Abdul Hamid on Tuesday directed the Bangladesh Bank to take effective measures to ensure transparency and accountability in all activities of financial institutions.

The president came up with the directive when the central bank’s new governor, Abdur Rouf Talukder, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.

The head of the state also asked the authorities concerned of the Bangladesh Bank to take effective steps to expand and develop the domestic financial market as well.

Referring to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent situation of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war context, he said the financial management is very important to protect the economic stability of the country.

In this regard, President Abdul Hamid also put emphasis on strengthening the activities of Bangladesh Bank considering the national interest.

Welcoming the new governor, the president hoped the central bank as a right regulatory body of the financial sector of the country would perform its duties professionally.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed governor sought the president's full support and guidance in discharging his new assignment.

President's Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salah Uddin Islam and Secretary (Attachment) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were present there.
