Three bankers withdrawn over Union Bank vault scandal

The authorities of Union Bank has withdrawn three people for being found involved in missing Tk 19 crore from the bank's vault. 

Hasan Iqbal, deputy managing director of the Bank confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Thursday.

Earlier, Bangladesh Bank found a mismatch of Tk 19 crore in the Gulshan Branch of Union Bank after an inspection in the bank branch recently.

It also found a discrepancy between documents and money kept in the bank's vault.

"We have formed a committee for inquiring the matter, and three of those in charge have been withdrawn," Iqbal said.

In this regard, the executive director and spokesman of Bangladesh Bank Sirajul Islam said, "We have sought an explanation from the bank."
