The Department of English of University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) celebrated its 18th founding anniversary on Thursday by holding various programmes on the university campus.
Around 11:00am, teachers, students, officials and employees brought out a procession on the occasion and paraded the campus.
UITS vice-chancellor (acting) Professor Md Abu Hashan Bhuiyan, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Dean Syeda Afsana Ferdousi, Head of the English department Naima Afrin, Lecturer and Additional Director (International Desk) Shuvo Das, Lecturer and Assistant Proctor Shamim Hossain, and Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the university Md Omar Faruq, among others, took part in the procession.

Around 3:00pm, a discussion was held at the Ratnagarbha Tahmina Rahman Multipurpose Auditorium with the acting vice-chancellor in the chair. Treasurer Professor Siraj Uddin Ahmed also spoke at the event.
After the discussion, a cake was cut marking the anniversary.
Later, a cultural event was held with the participation of the students of the English department.
UITS, the first IT-based private university in Bangladesh, was founded in 2003 as a non-profit organisation.
Information Science and Technology Solution Ltd (ISTS), a concern of the PHP group headed by Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman, is the sponsor of UITS.
