Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Wednesday said the DSCC has undertaken an extensive programme to dispose wastes of sacrificial animals within 24 hours during the Eid-ul-Azha.

After witnessing preparations at the Jatiya Eidgah Maidan where the main Eid Jamaat will be held, Taposh told reporters, “The DSCC has taken steps to dispose wastes of sacrificial animals within 24 hours during the Eid-ul-Azha.

“We will start disposing wastes of cattle markets from the midnight before Eid.”

The main Eid congregation marking the holy Eid-ul Azha will be held at the Jatiya Eidgah Maidan at 7am. Around 35,000 devotees will be able to offer prayers at the venue, reports BSS quoting the mayor.

Calling upon the people of Dhaka to complete the Qurbani related activities within the first two days of the three-day festival, Taposh said, “This is my humble request… Many people sacrifice animals on the third day of Eid.

“All the workers involved in our Qurbani related activities need rest as they will be working continuously for 72 hours.”

Taposh then pointed out, “The DSCC has made extensive preparations for the removal of sacrificial animal wastes. We will monitor the waste removal operations through the central control room on the day of Eid.”

“The DSCC removed animal wastes within 24 hours last year. We have similar preparations this year as well. We have already added 25 dump trucks with the ability to carry 10 tonnes each, 10 more pay-loaders, and many other relevant vehicles and equipment.”

The mayor added that during the Eid holidays, the city corporation’s waste management department employees have been asked to dispose sacrificial animal wastes within the quickest possible time.

He extended Eid greetings to the people of Dhaka in advance.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Mizanur Rahman, Secretary Akramuzzaman, acting Chief Engineer Ashiqur Rahman, Chief Waste Management Officer Mohammad Nasim Ahmed, Regional Executive Officer of Region-1 Md Shafiqul Islam and Chief Health Officer Dr Fazle Shamsul Kabir were present there among others.
