Sk Trims and Industries Ltd’s Managing Director MA Kayum Howlader on Thursday claimed that former NBR commissioner Matiur Rahman – who came under spotlight after facing graft charges – and his family members do not hold any share of this publicly traded company.

He made the claim on Thursday while exchanging views with several journalists in a meeting at the Fars Hotel in the capital.

Kayum said, “The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) have suspended the company's bank account due to misrepresentation that the company is owned by Matiur Rahman, a former official of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

“As a result, the company’s 1,500 workers, hundreds of thousands of investors, and the company's entrepreneurs are in trouble. In particular, the institution's LC is closed as the bank stops the transaction.”

He added, “As a result, the production of the factory also stopped, and the purchase orders of foreigners were cancelled.

“Due to this, the company suffered a loss of about Tk 95 crore. However, in SK Trims, Matiur Rahman and his family are not on the board and do not own them.”

Kayum pointed out that SK Trims and Industries completed paying all due dividends a couple of days ago and has submitted the related payment documents to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

SK Trims was recently downgraded to the Z category by the stock exchanges when the company failed to pay announced dividends within the stipulated time.

The company explained the reasons for the delay and showed the necessary documents of the dividend payments in a hearing arranged by the BSEC recently.

The company’s bank accounts have recently been opened for a month, but foreign buyers are now reluctant to place work orders due to its poor image and association with Matiur Rahman. Kayum Howlader added.

He sought the government's support for the recovery of his company.
