Education Minister Dipu Moni on Thursday said the government is working on bringing back the past glory of Bangladesh’s traditional products.

While speaking at an event titled ‘Friends of Bangladesh Day’ at the Heritage Handloom Festival 2022 being held at the Bangladesh Shooting Federation at Gulshan, Dipu Moni said reviving the old tradition and bringing back the lost glory of the traditional handloom products can represent Bangladesh in other countries.

The government is working on bringing back the old and traditional products like Muslin, she added.

The festival venue was festive and abuzz with visitors including foreigners and diplomats on the second day of the four-day heritage festival.

Indian high commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami and Japanese ambassador Ito Naoki also attended the ‘Friends of Bangladesh Day’ event as special guests with SME Foundation Managing Director Md Mofizur Rahman in the chair.

Association of Fashion Designers of Bangladesh (AFDB) President Mantasha Ahmed narrated different aspects of the festival at the ‘Friends of Bangladesh’ event. About 60 entrepreneurs and designers are displaying their traditional and heritage handloom products at the festival.

Products from various sectors, including jute, Khadi, Jamdani, cane and bamboo, Rajshahi silk, folk art, Nakshi Kantha, Mirpur Banarasi, Tangail handloom, Sirajganj handloom, Rangamati handloom, and Monipuri handloom are on display at the festival.

The event creates an opportunity for craftsmen from the country’s rural areas to contact the leading fashion designers. It help them in innovating new items as well creating employment opportunities.

The festival remains open from 10:00am to 8:00pm and will continue till February 12.
