The movement public transportations remained halted on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route since Saturday morning – causing immense suffering to the commuters. No long-distance buses were seen plying on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway either.
After visiting the ticket counters of inter-city buses, The Business Post found them deserted. People were forced to pay exorbitant fares to use microbus or even ambulances in the absence of regular public transport services.
The lack of transport prompted many commuters in the city to walk to their destinations.

"I have been waiting since 7am, but have not been able to find a bus to go to work. If I want to save my job, I have to walk there," Roksana Aktar, an apparel factory worker told The Business Post.
On condition of anonymity, a ticket seller of Matlab Express said, “Ticket counters of long-distance buses have been closed since the morning. But I cannot say why it is closed. Half of our buses are not on the road today due to a lack of passengers.
“It is not possible to say when the situation will become normal.”
In this regard, Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moshiur Rahman said, “Since traffic remained sparse since Saturday morning, many people resorted to going to their workplaces on foot.
"We did not stop anyone from going anywhere. If in doubt, we searched and then released the person," the OC said.
