The fire at the BM container depot at Sitakunda in Chittagong has been completely extinguished after about 87 hours.

Army 18 Brigade of 24 Infantry Division Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Islam Himel gave the information at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

“The fire has been completely extinguished. There is no fire anywhere in the depot,” he said.

While some containers are still seen emitting smoke, there is no active fire, the army official said. He said that smoke is coming out of the garment products in the containers as they are being sprayed with water.

"More work is needed to make the depot area safe," he added.
