People diagnosed with diabetes across the country were getting free treatment at government hospitals said Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Thursday.
Besides, insulin hormone for diabetes patients will also be free in the future, the minister said while attending a programme marking the World Diabetes Day.
“At least 61 per cent of country’s population is suffering from different health complications due to con-communicable diseases.”, the minister said.
Diabetes grips patients silently as people from urban areas as well as rural population lack adequate awareness about the disease, he said, according to a press release issued by the Health Ministry.
A recent survey stated that currently diabetes is under control for only 12 per cent of diabetes patients in the country while many people are failing to reach the treatments due to poverty, Maleque said.
“So, the massage regarding the free diabetes treatment should be spread across the country.”, he added.
