A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent Amatullah Bushra to jail after expiry of her five-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Fardin Noor Parash.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ataullah gave the order after rejecting her bail plea.

Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector Mojibur Rahman, also the investigating officer (IO) of the case, produced Bushra before the court, and informed that she provided some important information about the killing.

Mentioning that the information given by Bushra must be verified, the IO sought permission to keep her in jail until the investigation is over. Earlier that day, the defence lawyer submitted a bail petition for Bushra.

After the hearing, the court denied her bail plea and ordered her to be sent to prison.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner for DB (Motijheel division) Rajib Al Masud told The Business Post, “We are verifying the information provided by Bushra.”

On November 7, the river police found the body of Fardin, who was a third-year student of the civil engineering department, in the Shitalakshya River, behind a cotton mill at Siddhirganj in Narayanganj, three days after he went missing.

His autopsy was conducted at Narayanganj General Hospital on November 8. Doctors said there were several injury marks on Fardin’s head and body.

On November 10, Fardin’s father Kazi Nuruddin Rana filed a case against his son’s friend Amatullah Bushra, a third-year student of East West University, and several unidentified people in connection with the death with Rampura police station.

Bushra was placed on a five-day remand on the same day after being arrested from her Banasree home in Dhaka.
