HC stays Shohoz’s Tk 2 lakh fine

The High Court (HC) has stayed the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) decision to fine shohoz.com for alleged negligence in the process of selling train tickets.

This stay order comes into effect after Shohoz filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the validity of the decision to impose a fine of Tk2 lakh.

Lawyer Tanjib-ul Alam filed the writ petition on behalf of Shohoz.com.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir Liton passed the order on Sunday.

Earlier on July 20, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined ticketing site shohoz.com for its negligence in the ticket sale procedure.

The fine was imposed following a hearing on the negligence claim made by Dhaka University student Mohiuddin Rony, DNCRP Director General (DG) AHM Shafiquzzaman said in a press briefing earlier.

The DU student demonstrated for more than two weeks at the Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka and called for an end to the irregularities and poor management at Bangladesh Railway.
