Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the much-anticipated 6.15-kilometre Padma Bridge for vehicular movement on Saturday which will bring a massive progress in road connectivity of 21 south and southwestern districts with capital Dhaka and other major cities.

The premier will join the Padma Bridge inaugural ceremony at Mawa point in Munshiganj at 10:00am.

As per the premier’s programme schedule, she will also unveil commemorative postage stamps, souvenir sheets, opening day cover and seals at 11:00am at Mawa point to mark the grand opening of the country’s biggest self-financed mega project which is likely to boost GDP by 1.2 to 2 per cent.

Prior to that, she will leave Tejgaon Airport, Dhaka at 9:30am by a helicopter to join the programme at Mawa point.

The Prime Minister will formally open the Padma Bridge by unveiling the inaugural plaque and mural-1 after paying toll at the Mawa point at 11:12am. She will also join a munajat to be offered there.

She will begin her journey for Jajira point in Shariatpur from Mawa point by road crossing the bridge at 11:23am.

The premier will reach Jajira point at 11:45am and unveil the inaugural plaque of the bridge and mural-2. She will also join a munajat there.

Sheikh Hasina, also Awami League president, will join a public rally of the party marking the opening of the bridge at Kathalbari under Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district at 12 noon.

The premier will start for Dhaka from Jajira point by helicopter at 5:30pm.

Traffic guideline for Padma Bridge opening ceremony

Bangladesh Police on Friday issued traffic guideline for vehicular movements on the way to Mawa point from Dhaka marking the grand opening ceremony of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge.

The traffic guideline was issued for the invited guests travelling to Mawa from Dhaka on Saturday.

According to the traffic guideline, invited guests from Dhaka University and New Market areas have been asked to take Mayor Hanif Flyover from Chankharpool adjacent to Dhaka Medical College through Dholaipar toll plaza-Dholaipar crossing-Jurain flyover-Buriganga bridge-Mawa Expressway.

Guests who would travel from Zero point (Bangabandhu Avenue Gulistan) will take Mayor Hanif Flyover from Ahad Police Box point to Dholaipar toll plaza-Dholaipar crossing-Jurain flyover-Buriganga bridge-Mawa Expressway.

The invited guests from Motijheel Shapla Chattar and Ittefaq areas will use Mayor Hanif Flyover Entrance through Motijheel Shapla Chattar-Ittefaq Crossing-Hatkhola intersection to Dholaipar toll plaza-Dholaipar crossing-Jurain flyover-Buriganga bridge-Mawa Expressway.

The route for the invited guests from Kamalapur, Titipara slam will use the Mayor Hanif Flyover from Kamalapur, Titipara crossing-Golapbagh intersection to Dholaipar toll plaza-Dholaipar crossing-Jurain flyover-Buriganga bridge-Mawa Expressway.

It requested all invitees to start their journey from Dhaka taking ample time to reach the venue within the stipulated time.
