An inspection team – led by NSI Assistant Director Robiul Islam – has termed as risky a six-storied mall and residential building named Rose Marinus in the capital’s Siddique Bazar, due to its poor fire-safety standards.

Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Adhir Chandra Hawlader was also on the team, along with other officials of the NSI, WASA, Titas Gas and Fire Services, read a press release issued by the Fire Service Media Cell.

After the inspection, Hawlader said, “The building has two basements, one of which has shops. It has shops up until the second floor, and the floors from the third to the sixth are residential. The market portion has 500 shops, while the residential space is occupied by 140 families.

“Though the building has an elevated risk of fire hazard, it lacks adequate fire suppression measures. So, we have designated the building as prone to fire hazards.”

He added, “The building will be termed safe when necessary fire suppression and safety systems are installed there as per regulations.”
