Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, additional director general (development and planning) of the Directorate General of Health Services, has been put on life support at Singapore’s National University Hospital due to her critical health condition.

She is currently on life support with multiple organ failures, Dr Nazmul Islam, DGHS director (disease control), confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday.

"Recently she underwent ERCP. Later, she was taken to the intensive care unit as her condition was not well. Afterwards, she was taken on life support when her condition worsened,” he said.

Nazmul asked everyone to pray for her recovery.

DGHS sources said that Flora has been undergoing treatment at the Singapore hospital for more than a week. Before that, she was admitted to the United Hospital in Dhaka.

Meerjady Sabrina Flora, former director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research, became a known face for her pandemic briefings after the first cases of the coronavirus were detected in Bangladesh.

On August 13, 2020, she was appointed as the additional director general of DGHS.

After receiving her MBBS from Dhaka Medical College, Flora worked at the Bangladesh Medical Research Council and the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine.
