Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam on Monday said three-tier security measures have been taken in and around Puja mandaps across the country ahead of the Durga Puja, to be celebrated from Wednesday.

"Three-tier security measures have been taken to ensure a peaceful and joyous celebration of the Durga Puja. No specific security threat has been found over the Durga Puja" he said while talking to journalists after inspecting the overall security arrangements of Dhakeshwari Temple, reports BSS.

The IGP assured that prompt actions would be taken if any evil attempt is found which can disrupt the peaceful celebration of the forthcoming Puja.

People of the Hindu community will celebrate their largest religious festival at 32, 666 puja mandaps across the country from October 9. The celebration will end on October 13 through immersion of goddess Durga in water bodies.

Alongside the police and RAB, Ansar and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will guard every pavilion round the clock to ensure peaceful celebration of the upcoming Puja, he said.

He said the law enforcement agencies have taken stringent security measures to create a festive and peaceful atmosphere for smooth celebration of the Durga Puja.

"Apart from these, the Coast Guard and specialised police units are monitoring the coastal and naval regions to pursue stringent security measures over the Puja."

Asking all to remain cautious against any sorts of potential disruption, especially on social media, he said cyber monitoring will be in place to prevent the spread of misinformation.

"There is no room for such kinds of activities and we will take prompt action against any kind of subversive activities," he warned.

He continued that police control rooms have already been set up in every district and upazila so that citizens can report any act that will disrupt the peaceful environment of the Durga Puja celebration.
