NU exams rescheduled to May

The examinations of National University (NU) programmes, which were postponed on February 22 citing the coronavirus pandemic, will be held from May 24.

The NU authorities made the announcement in a press release issued Thursday amid growing protest by the students against the delay.

The degree pass course examination of 2019 and certificate courses of 2nd year and Masters Final year examination of 2018 under National University will begin from May 24, it said.

Besides, the admission process for the academic year of 2020-2021 will begin from June 8.

The new schedule of the examinations will be available on the university’s website www.nu.ac.bd.

On Thursday morning, police detained 10 NU students at a protest against the decision of exam postponement, on allegation of an attempt to block the Shahbagh intersection in the capital.

On the same day, students of Home Economics College staged a demonstration blocking Azimpur road, to protest the same.

Earlier on February 22, the NU authorities postponed all sorts of examinations until further notice citing the coronavirus pandemic.

On the same day, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the government decided to reopen the residential halls of all universities on May 17 and resume classes on May 24. The Ministry of Education issued a directive to keep all the examinations postponed till then.

"Before reopening, the teachers, students and employees will be vaccinated," she said further.

The government shut all the schools and educational institutions on March 17 last year after the country confirmed its first Covid-19 cases on March 8.

The closure was extended several times, most recently until February 28 this year, to protect the students from the virus infections.

Online classes are going on at different educational institutions.
