BKMEA Executive President Mohammad Hatem said factories will now run under power rationing as per the government order commencing Friday.

“It was supposed to be area-wise power rationing, rather than feeder-wise. We might face problems with the supply chain if a part of the factory stops working for power rationing in a particular feeder. We will discuss the matter with the government,” Hatem said.

He also said that power rationing will not effective for industries that run on captive power.

“Besides the power rationing, disruption in gas supply is hitting hard. Gas supply was down in Narayanganj industrial area from Wednesday morning to Thursday afternoon. We talked to the managing director of Titas and chairman of Petrobangla about the problem did not get any proper reply yet,” Hatem added.

The government started enforcement of daily one-hour area-based load-shedding across Bangladesh on July 19 to tackle the ongoing energy crisis.

However, it has been alleged that there is discriminatory enforcement of power rationing between the capital and other parts of the country.
