State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said on Sunday that the government has decided to follow a method of area-based shutdown of factories on different days of the week to solve the ongoing power crisis.

The state minister disclosed the matter after a view exchange meeting with businesses held at Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka.

“With the initiative, we hope to save at least 490MW of electricity.”

The government started enforcement of daily one-hour area-based load-shedding across Bangladesh from July 19 to tackle the ongoing energy crisis.

However, it has been alleged that there is a discriminatory enforcement of power rationing between the capital and other parts of the country.

Nasrul said they will further reduce the enforcement of power cuts from September by increasing power generation.

He hoped an uninterrupted power supply will resolve the crisis by October.
