Fakir Alamgir to be recalled on 1st death anniv today

Saturday, on July 22 marks the 1st death anniversary of noted folk singer Fakir Alamgir, who emerged as Gono Sangeet (the songs of the masses) singer for his outstanding contributions to inspiring the people to join the country’s 1971 Liberation War.

Marking the day, Bangladesh Ganasangeet Samannay Parishad has organized a commemorative programme today at 5pm at the National theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital.

Presided over by Ganasangeet Samannay Parishad acting president Kazi Mizanur Rahman, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid will be present as chief guest. Renowned thespians Asaduzzaman Noor, Mamunur Rashid, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Golam Quddus, Jatiya Kabita Parishad president Dr Mohammad Samad, Bangladesh Group Theatre chairman Liaquat Ali Lucky, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote acting general secretary Ahkam Ullah, and Fakir Alamgir’s Widow Suraiya Alamgir, among others will recall the memories of Fakir Alamgir at the event.

At the commemorative event, artistes of Wrishiz Shilpigoshthi, Udichi Shilpigosthi, Kranti Shilpigosthi, Satyen Sen Shilpigosthi, Bhinnadhara, Ponchobhaskar, Somoswar, Uthon, singer Arif Rahman and Abida Rahman Setu will render songs dedicate to Fakir Alamgir.
