Bangladeshi archer-duo Ruman Shana and Diya Siddique qualified for the finals of the mixed team event after they finished 16th in the qualification round of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The elimination round will start today where they will face the South Korean duo of Kim Je Deok and An San, who finished top of the qualification round.

Ruman and Diya finished 16th after they had scored 1297 points during qualification. Canada, who were just below Bangladesh and dropped out, had scored 1295 points.

The Korean team of Kim and An scored 1368 points to take the top place.

In their personal events, Diya scored her career-best 635 to finish 36th. An reigned supreme in the women’s singles event too, as she scored 680 to finish first.

In the men’s event, Ruman failed to emulate his career-best score

but still notched up his season-best score of 662 as he finished 17th. Ruman had been in the top eight during the first half of the qualification round but slipped down in the second phase. Korea’s Kim sat top as he scored 688 points in the qualification round.

The women’s final round will take place on July 24 at the Yumenoshima Final Field. The men’s final event will take place at the same field on the next day.

The Olympics opening ceremony took place on Friday where swimmer Ariful Islam carried the Bangladeshi flag.

Bangladesh have six athletes competing in this year’s Olympics. Along with the two archers and Ariful, swimmer Junaina Ahmed, sprinter Jahir Rayhan and shooter Abdullah Hel Baki is taking part in the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’.
