Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim nullifies the idea of retiring from any of the three formats of cricket at this moment, though there had been indications from the BCB President Nazmul Hasan.

Mushfiq, after completing his eighth Test century and reaching the 5000 Test runs landmark appeared in the post-match press conference at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Wednesday after the end of fourth day's play of the Chattogram Test against Sri Lanka.

Mushfiq, in the press conference, said that he has no plan to step down from any particular format at this moment,

" I have no such plans. My intention is to play as long as possible for Bangladesh in every possible way according to the team's demand. I want to keep performing so long the team needs me", he said on Wednesday.

A few days ago, after a meeting with the team officials before the start of the series, Nazmul told the media, " We don’t want that our senior players leave with the sorrowful mind. We want that they leave with smiling faces and take their own decision. It will be a good sign as soon as they could be able to take up their own decision. If they don’t take the decision in time, we will have to take the decision.”

Apart from Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim is the only senior cricketer or one of the " fabulous five" who plays all formats for Bangladesh. His Twenty20 International performance is not up to the mark in recent times and considering the emergence of Nurul Hasan Sohan as a better option, the selectors might seek an alternative.

After Mushfiq's 5000 runs, from an Instagram account titled "Jannatul Kefayat Mondi", the name of Mushfiq's wife surfaced a photo of Mushfiq offering sejdhah and wrote,

" We will bid farewell with smiling faces. But is your replacement ready? If you could put more attention on Bangladesh cricket, that could do better", read the Instagram post.
