Bangladesh ended day four of the first Test against Sri Lanka on a high as they picked up two wickets in the final session of the day to leave the tourists at 39-2, still trailing by 29 runs.

Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne remained not out on 18 as the umpires called stumps after the dismissal of night-watchman Lasith Embuldeniya, who was sent back for two by Taijul Islam.

Taijul produced a moment of magic late in the day when he hit the stumps directly from short mid-wicket to send back opener Oshada Fernando for 19 runs.

Karunaratne called for the run initially but sent his partner back abruptly. By the time the skipper said no, Oshada had run half-way to the other end and had to go back, courtesy of Taijul’s brilliance.

Taijul was at it again when he castled Embuldeniya, whose stride forwards left a gulf between his bat and pad. Taijul’s delivery gripped and sharply turned inside as it rushed onto the stumps.

Bangladesh was all-out for 465 as they took a 68-run lead in reply to Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 397.

Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with 105 runs as he reached his eighth hundred and became the first batsman to score 500 runs in Tests for Bangladesh.
