Stock markets fall for third consecutive session

Stocks at Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges fell on Sunday for third consecutive session following massive selling pressure from investors as most of them booked profit from bullish sessions over the last weeks.

DSE’s daily turnover, a key indicator of the market, also decreased as many investors remained cautious over the market tendency before making new trades.

A total of Tk 1,846 crore changed hands at the DSE during the four and a half hours-long trading period, which was Tk 2,227 crore in the previous session. DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, decreased 27 points or 0.40 per cent to settle at 6,823 points.

The Shariah based index DSES and blue-chip index DS30 also fell to 1,484 points or 0.19 per cent and 2,443 points or 0.40 per cent respectively on the bourse.

BEXIMCO Limited, LHBL, Saif Power, PTL, SPCL and Aman Feed topped the turnover chart in the last session.

Aziz Pipes, Rahima Food, Desh Bandhu, Northern Insurance and Crystal Insurance made it to the gainers’ list at DSE, while SBAC Bank, Meghna Condensed Milk, CNA Tex, Imam Button and Islamic Finance, were in the top losers list.

Out of the total 375 issues traded, 131 advanced, 215 declined, and 29 remained unchanged at the Dhaka bourse.

Meanwhile, shares of 41 companies worth Tk 51.12 crore were traded in the block market of Dhaka Stock Exchange in the last session.

A total of 9,652,451 shares were exchanged in 112 trades during the block trading hours.

Among the companies, Pioneer Insurance had the highest turnover of Tk 14.75 crore, while Aman Feed came second with Tk 9.94 crore, followed by GBB Power with Tk 8.86 crore.

Meanwhile, the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed in the red terrain.

The turnover value stood at Tk 82 crore in the CSE on Sunday. Out of the total 317 issues traded, 101 advanced, 186 declined, and 30 remained unchanged on the bourse.
