DSE gains highest in 39 months

DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange posted 101 points gain to 5,986 points on Thursday, the highest in 39 months.

On February 15, 2018, DSEX was at 6,050 points.

On Thursday, the last trading session of the week, the DSE closed the trading on a choppy note as investors poured funds on banks and non-banking financial institutions and insurance.

DSEX gained by 1.72 per cent or 101 points closing at 5,986 points.

The blue-chip index DS30 rose by 0.90 per cent or 19.48 points to 2,190 points, while the Shariah-based index DSES posted a 1.13 per cent gain to 1,285 points.

Daily turnover stood at Tk2,368 crore.

Of the total traded issues, 163 gained, 143 declined, while 58 remained unchanged.   

Large-cap sectors posted mixed performance On Thursday.  Bank booked the highest gain of 4.46 per cent followed by Telecommunication 0.94 per cent, Fuel and Power 0.51 per cent, and Pharmaceutical 0.22 per cent.

Food and Allied sector experienced the highest loss of 1.08 per cent followed by Engineering 0.40 per cent, and NBFI 0.26 per cent in the red.
