DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, on Monday hit a record high since its inception more than eight years ago as buying binge added strength to the equity indices despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
DSEX went up by 56.31 points or 0.87 per cent to settle at 6,481, the highest since January 2013.
The turnover increased by 43.81 per cent to Tk 2,188 crore on Monday. The engineering sector dominated the turnover chart, covering 17.08 per cent of the total turnover.
Other indices also ended higher, with the DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advancing 16.22 points to finish at 2,344 and the DSE Shariah Index rising 11.10 points to close at 1,412.
Out of the 375 issues traded, 232 advanced, 118 declined, and 25 remained unchanged.
