DSEX reaches new height

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, touched 6,424 points on Sunday which is highest since its introduction in 2013 as investors continued to pour in funds hoping for a better return.

On the day, the DSEX gained by 19.17 points or 0.29 per cent.

According to the daily market update of International leasing securities, after crossing the psychological 6,400-mark in last session, the index continued its upward trend in early hour of trading on Sunday. It persisted till the closure of the day’s session along with some profit booking sell pressure from investors.

The upbeat trend of the last five sessions lured investors for buoyancy especially in cement, ceramic, food, bank and pharma sectors. Meanwhile, risk-averse investors booked some quick gain on miscellaneous, textile, financial institution, telecom and general insurance sectors, the market update read.

EBL Securities’ daily market update said that, investors’ sentiment throughout the session was positive, while a section opted for portfolio rebalancing ahead of declarations by June-closing companies.

Besides, participation in the major sectors led the turnover to increase from the last session. The total turnover advanced by 7.14 per cent to settle at Tk 1354 crore. But market capitalisation of DSE slightly decline on Sunday and stood Tk 5.35 lakh crore.

On Sunday, a number of investors preferred in Fu-Wang Ceramic leading to a 9.95 per cent increase in the company’s share price. Meanwhile, Family textile topped the losers list on Sunday. The Z category company’s share price went down to Tk 4.80, which is almost half of its face value.

On the sectoral front, pharma (10.89pc), engineering (10.82pc), and bank (8.47pc) dominated the day’s trade.

Most of the sectors observed persuasive performance, out of which cement (3.5 pc), ceramic (3.3 pc), and services (2.9 pc) have exerted the most return while miscellaneous (-3.6 pc), textile (-2.5 pc) and paper (-2.3 pc) witnessed correction on Sunday.

Out of the 375 issues traded, 116 advanced, 237 declined, and 22 remained unchanged in DSE.

The port city bourse, CSE, also ended in green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and all share price index (CASPI) advanced by 69.2 points and 103.5 points respectively.
