High-level task force to ensure safety, security of Ctg port

The government has decided to form a high-level task force to ensure the safety and security of the Chittagong port.

The decision was taken during a two-hour long meeting of government bodies at the Port Building on Thursday afternoon, a port source confirmed to The Business Post.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Ahmad Kaykaus, Secretary of Shipping Mustafa Kamal, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Abu Hena Mohammad Rahmatul Mumin, Secretary of Public Safety Department of Home Ministry Akther Hossain and several other government officials attended the meeting.

In the meeting, the overall operational activities of the port, BM depot accident, container delivery through hacking of customs system, and other recent incidents were reviewed.

“We discussed what necessary steps can be taken to avoid incidents like the BM depot accident. Everyone has insisted on the formation of a task force in this regard,” Mohammad Nasir Uddin, chief personnel officer of the port, said.

The meeting also discussed the removal of about 1,000 tonnes of chemicals and actionable cargoes from the port.

After the meeting, the government officials visited the port and some other areas including the auction shed.
