Committee formed to probe Ctg shipyard explosion

A six-member investigation committee has been formed by the Ministry of Industries to investigate the explosion that took place at an old ship-breaking factory in Chattogram's Sitakunda.

The committee, led by Additional Secretary of the ministry Shah Md Helal Uddin, has been asked to submit a report within three working days, according to a press release.

As many as 12 people have suffered burn injuries in the explosion.

Condition of seven people is critical, they have been sent to Dhaka by ambulance with ICU support on the instructions of the Interim Government's Adviser to the Ministry of Industries Adilur Rahman Khan for better treatment.

An officer of the Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defense control room said that the blast took place in the pump room of the factory named SN Corporation in Sonaichhari shipyard during the dismantling of an old vessel around 12:30pm.

Ahmed Ullah, 38, who sustained burn injuries in the explosion, died on Sunday morning while receiving treatment.
