Commerce Adviser to the interim government Salehuddin Ahmed assured that the trade fair of 2025 will be held in the month of January next year.

He made the remark while speaking to reporters after the 59th board meeting of 146th Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute – operating under the Export Development Bureau (EPB) – held at the Secretariat on Sunday.

Meanwhile, commerce ministry sources say plans are being made to launch the trade fair of 2025 at the beginning of the second week of January. In that case, January 8 is being considered as a possible date. However, the date for starting the trade fair is yet to be finalised.

Christmas is celebrated on 25th December to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, so the holiday mood continues for the first few days of January. For this reason, the trade fair of 2025 may begin from the second week of January, instead of the first.

International trade fairs are usually held from the first day of January. However, this year's trade fair started on January 21 due to the national polls. The fair ran till February 20 in the city’s Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BBCFEC) in Purbachal.

The fair was held in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from 1995 to 2020 as a joint initiative of the Ministry of Commerce and EPB, to promote, spread, market, and support domestic products.

The fair could not be held in 2021 due to the Covid pandemic. Then in 2022, the fair was moved to BBCFEC in Purbachal for the first time amid pandemic restrictions. The trade fair was held at that venue for the third time in 2024.
