SCB delegation urges port modernisation, jute sector reforms

A delegation of Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh (SCB) led by its Chairman, Md Rezaul Karim paid a courtesy call to Shipping and Textiles & Jute advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain at the Conference Room of the Ministry on September 8, 2024.

SCB Senior Vice Chairman Md Ariful Ahsan; Vice Chairman Ganesh Chandra Saha Director-Syed Md Bakhtiar also attended the meeting.

In the beginning, the SCB Chairman highlighted the activities of the Council to the advisor and said that the Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh has been playing an important role in solving various problems of Trade & Exports since its inception. 

The delegation placed recommendations to solve problems arising in the management of the port.

The delegation emphasised self-mobilising and modernising the operations of sea & land ports and drew the attention of the advisor to install more scanners at Chattogram port with the help of Customs and NBR and keep the existing Scanners operational.

Besides, they requested to take necessary measures to solve the problems caused in the Jute Sector to take necessary initiatives regarding the use of Jute Bags instead of Poly Bags at all levels to remedy the environmental pollution.

SCB Chairman requested the advisor to be included as a Member in the Bangladesh Land Port Authority Board.

The advisor listened attentively to the discussion and assured to resolve the issues.
