Syed Jamil Ahmed, a renowned scholar, visionary theatre director, and the founding chair of the Department of Theatre and Music at the University of Dhaka, has been appointed Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).
Chief Coordinator of ICT and Innovation Cell at BSA Hasan Mahmud, has confirmed the news to The Business Post.
"He has been appointed as the Director General of BSA and accepted the position happily," said Hasan Mahmud. Syed Jamil Ahmed supposed to take on the role on August 14.
Following the recent downfall of the former government following the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Liaquat Ali Lucky, who served as the Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) for over a decade, stepped down from his position on August 12.
Syed Jamil’s most notable theatre productions include “Kamala Ranir Sagar Dighi” (1997), “Ek Hazar Aur Ek Thi Rate” (1998), “Behular Bhasan” (2004), “Pahiye” (2006) and “Shong Bhong Chong” (2009). He won Nandikar National Theatre Award of Calcutta and the BV Karanth Award of India's National School of Drama (NSD).
